Feathersmith was born from the passion we have here at Feathersmith for fly fishing. We treat all of our flies as we would a piece of jewellery and look at each as a miniature work of art - it's all about quality materials and attention to detail.

All of our Feathersmith kits include access to a full step-by-step tying video, along with associated videos on:

  • The fly patterns history
  • How to best fish the finished fly

This second in the series of kits focuses on the Red-Neck Hare's Ear nymph - a pattern derived from our two best selling nymphs of all time: The Red-Neck Pheasant Tail and Tungsten Hare's Ear nymphs.

This nymph is perfect for targeting both Trout and Grayling on rivers and stillwaters and is one of the most successful nymph patterns in Autumn & Winter.

This Red-Neck Hare's Ear nymph pattern is suitable for:

Target Species: Grayling & Brown Trout
Water Types: Rivers & Stillwaters
Location: All UK Rivers
Tying Difficulty: Easy

Our Red-Neck Hare's Ear kit contains:

  • Ahrex FW561 Barbless Hooks (10 each of sizes 14, 16 & 18)
  • Tungsten Beads (Nickel colour), sizes 3.5mm, 3.0mm & 2.5mm
  • Semperfli Classic Red 12/0 Thread
  • Whiting Coq de Leon Pardo
  • Copper Wire 0.1mm & 0.2mm
  • Lead-Free Wire 0.4mm
  • Wapsi Turkey Biot (Brown)
  • Hare's Mask Natural Dubbing

Contained inside each kit is a leaflet which will direct you to a secret page on our website where all the videos can be accessed.

With the help of some professional fly tyers, we've identified some really beautiful and unique fly patterns, gathered together all of the materials from world-class and well-respected manufacturers (like Semperfli & Ahrex) and then created a kit which allows you to tie one specific pattern - 30 of each in 3 different hook sizes.

Here's what's included when you purchase one of our pattern-specific kits:

    • A kit full of world-class materials - more than enough to tie all 30 flies in the kit
    • A video tutorial detailing the history of the fly you are tying
    • A video tutorial of how to tie the fly - presented by a professional fly tyer
    • A video tutorial of how to use and fish the finished fly

The other piece of advice you will always hear is "It's more expensive to tie your own flies than it is to buy them." - not anymore it isn't, our Feathersmith kits allow you to tie a stunning pattern with the very best materials available - all for less than £1 per fly - now that is great value.

              Feathersmith kit

This is the 1st time I've purchased one of the Feathersmith kits and I have to say I'm really impressed. I bought the kit as I'm fairly new to flytying and thought this way would assist me in not only materials but tuition..and it has. All the materials are quality products and the tutorials are really well done and easy to follow. The way in which your kit arrives packaged up they would make great gifts for any flyfisherman.

Excellent tying kit, great materials and really clear instructional video.
Looking forward to trying out the results on my local rivers soon.
              Highly recommended!!

So far only tied in size 14 but all components are very good and the video is excellent.
Great way to learn to create flies

I'm an occasional fly tyer, the kit is well presented and clearly labelled with all the ingredients to make flies that will catch fish. The accompanying videos are a welcome addition to aid the fly-tying process.

Very well thought out and presented, an excellent idea. The materials supplied are all too quality making it so much easier to produce quality flies rather than struggling with cheap hackles that provide nothing but frustration. Looking forward to the release of the next Feathersmith release.
