Feathersmith was born from the passion we have here at Feathersmith for fly fishing. We treat all of our flies as we would a piece of jewellery and look at each as a miniature work of art - it's all about quality materials and attention to detail.

All of our Feathersmith kits include access to a full step-by-step tying video, along with associated information on:

  • The fly patterns history
  • How to best fish the finished fly

This second in our 'Signature Series' of kits celebrates a fly which catches fish in virtually ever water it enters - The V-Rib Tungsten Nymph.

This pattern is a bit of a hybrid, in that it perfectly imitates those sub-surface hatches, but with a rubber-legged twist. It is a perfect pattern to use in the early (and late) season, just before we start to see the more regular fly hatches.

This V-Rib Tungsten Nymph pattern is suitable for:

Target Species: Brown & Rainbow Trout
Water Types: Rivers & Stillwaters
Location: All Rivers & All Stillwaters
Tying Difficulty: Easy

Our V-Rib Tungsten Nymph 'Signature Series' kit contains:

  • Hooks: AHREX FW551 Size 14
  • Bead: Tungsten Bead Sloted 3.5mm
  • Body: Stretch Rib Black
  • Legs: Rubber Barred Black/White
  • Thorax Rear: Synthetic Dubbing mix Black
  • Thorax Front: Synthetic Dubbing mix Peacock
  • A Pre-Tied Sample V-Rib Tungsten Nymph

Please Note: All our 'Signature Series' fly tying kits do not include any thread - each of the kits in the series only uses standard black 8/0 thread, which just about everyone already has - we didn't want to add to the pile of thread you already have!

Contained inside each kit is a label which will direct you to a secret page on our website where all the tying video and extra information can be accessed.

With the help of some professional fly tyers, we've identified some really beautiful and unique fly patterns, gathered together all of the materials from world-class and well-respected manufacturers (like Whiting & Ahrex) and then created a kit which allows you to tie one specific pattern - 15 of each.

Here's what's included when you purchase one of our 'Signature Series' kits:

    • A kit full of world-class materials - more than enough to tie all 15 flies in the kit
    • Information detailing the history of the fly you are tying
    • A video tutorial of how to tie the fly - presented by a professional fly tyer
    • Information on how to use and fish the finished fly

The other piece of advice you will always hear is "It's more expensive to tie your own flies than it is to buy them." - not anymore it isn't, our Feathersmith kits allow you to tie a stunning pattern with the very best materials available - all for a little more than £1 per fly - now that is great value.

                      Need Some Inspiration?

At its core, fly tying is an art form that marries creativity with functionality, transforming the tying vise into a canvas and feathers into brushstrokes.

                      Great pattern to tie

Nice, easy fly to tie and the materials were all great. The online tutorial was clear and well produced. A small gripe is that I had bought the original mean green catching machine kit which came in a lovely box (ideal as a present) but the new kits (such as this) just come in a plastic bag. Bit of a shame but not a deal breaker
